The Foundation for Exceptional Kids is a non-profit corporation that has been created to provide community education and supports for children with developmental disabilities and their families. An advisory board comprised of parents, service providers, and educators will provide the Foundation for Exceptional Kids with the leadership and guidance necessary to undertake our mission .
At this time, The Foundation for Exceptional Kids is incorporated and has applied for their 501 (c) 3 status with the IRS . Upon approval of this status, we will begin accepting contributions and move forward with the mission of this organization.
Our Mission
The Foundation for Exceptional Kids is dedicated to improving the quality of life of children with developmental disabilities. This can be done by providing community education and supports that are currently not being provided to Arizona families.
Goal 1: Community Education
Through effective training, the Foundation for Exceptional Kids aspires to increase the effectiveness of community and family team interventions by supporting them with much needed education. We believe that children benefit from intervention when parents and professionals work together. Therefore, our goal is also to strengthen the role and responsibility of parents and family members and empower them by creating with meaningful opportunities to collaborate with community professionals and support members. Future training topics will include:
- Diagnoses
- Arizona resources
- Parenting techniques for parents of special needs children.
- Developing and implementing home programs.
- Managing and maintaining effective programs by collaborating with professionals.
- In-service and informational trainings on new therapies and approaches, with an emphasis on empirically validated practices.
- Professional training on educational interventions and approaches.
- Advanced professional skills training focused on working in a direct-care setting.
Goal 2: Community Supports and Resources
Families and children also need to be supported through the development of additional community resources, such as support groups, social groups, and summer programs. Future support and resources will include:
- Sibling Support Groups
- Family and Social Support Groups
- Summer Programs and Camps for Children with Disabilities
